The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for assigned tasks including patient or resident baths and showers and assist with feeding meals. The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient or resident care, including providing needed assistance with all activities of daily living. These include, but are not limited to, feeding, grooming, toileting, dressing, and transferring with mechanical lift. CNA’s provide routine daily nursing care as detailed in St. Luke’s Medical Center’s established nursing care procedures and are delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties.

Essential Job Functions:

​The essential functions of the job are based on the functions the person who holds the position will be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.


1.  Infection Control – Understand and follow basic concepts of infection control, including use of universal precautions. Consistently practices good hand washing techniques.

 

2.  Safety and Emergency Procedures – Maintain safety standards as established by St. Luke’s Medical Center, including using of safe operating procedures. Be familiar with and follow fire and disaster procedures. Report all incidents or safety hazards promptly to supervisor. Respond to choking situation by using standard, accepted procedures, use safety devices including gait belt and lifting equipment properly.

 

3.  Basic Nursing Skills / Personal Care Skills – Assist patient or resident as needed, in all phases of activities of daily living: eating, drinking, oral hygiene, bathing, dressing, and grooming. Under direction of the Charge Nurse, follow the established plan of care for each patient or resident. Measure weights, and Intake and Output accurately. Assess patient or resident for condition changes (ie. Difficulty breathing, break in skin) and report to Charge Nurse.
