General Medical – Surgical Care

The Primary Care Unit is so named because of the special relationship between patient and nurse. This is a medical and post surgical unit staffed by registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants that collaborate as a team to provide patient care.

There is a nurse call system within easy reach of each bed in every room. Push the button and your call will register at the central nurses’ station. The unit secretary will answer through the audio intercom, or a nursing staff member will come directly to your room. You may respond to the audio system by simply speaking.

The use of the call system, electric bed and other equipment will be explained to you when you are admitted to your room.

Pediatric Patients

Children are required to wear hospital attire for safety purposes. Because hospital stays can be a frightening experience for the pediatric patient, parents are encouraged to stay with their children while hospitalized. Sleeping accommodations will be arranged.

Visiting hours in the Primary Care Unit are from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Visitors under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Visitors may be restricted due to the patient’s condition, or upon the request of the patient. Latex balloons are a potential source for allergies and are not allowed in the hospital. Mylar balloons are acceptable and are allowed in the PCU.

One small cat or dog is allowed to visit our patients, however, they must never be left alone and must be taken home at the end of the visit.
